The Gelato World Tour kicks off in Rome

The sweetest contest in the world!

The amazing first step of the Gelato World Tour 2013-14 was held in Rome from May 3rd to May 5th.  It’s an event organized by the Carpigiani Gelato Univeristy and Sigep to promote the culture of quality, artisan gelato.

Eight different cities in five continents will become, for a few days, the world’s gelato capital. After the leg in Rome, the next cities will be: Valencia, Chicago, Dubai, Shanghai, San Paolo, Sidney and Berlin. 
Each city will welcome thousands of visitors for tastings that will highlight local artisans and products. At each stage of the tour, a technical jury of experts and associations will select the 16 best gelatieri in the host nation to compete. Each artisan will produce his or her signature flavour.
The ranking will be based on the public vote and the input of the technical jury. The top three artisan gelatieri will have the opportunity to compete in the Grand Final in Rimini, September 2014, for the title of “World’s Best Gelato Artisan”.

In the Gelato World Tour villages, visitors will be able to watch demonstrations on the art of gelato, taste and vote with the Gelato Pass and take part in courses held by the Gelato University and visit the itinerant Gelato Museum.
